Majestic oak trees are a defining feature of Contra Costa’s hills and neighborhoods. Many of us are fortunate to share our gardens with these keystone species, but oaks face growing threats and require thoughtful care.
Contra Costa UC Master Gardener, David George, will share research-based guidance on planting and gardening practices that protect oak health, support the ecosystems they thrive in, and help preserve their beauty in a changing climate.
David George is a 2020 graduate of the Contra Costa Master Gardener program. He writes a regular gardening column for the Diablo Gazette and has written numerous articles for Master Gardener publications. His debut book, “Granddad’s Garden – Stories of the Natural World”, is a children’s book for all reading ages. David is a member of the Contra Costa County UC Master Gardener Executive Leadership Team, Co-lead of the School Gardens project, and participates in the California Oak Mortality Task Force and New Volunteer Training.
